Darrell,
I am not sure about others, but I did take mine apart. I wanted to
replace the rubber gasket between the halves but the main reason was
because my calipers had quite a bit of surface rust and I wanted to be
able to do a thorough job cleaning the parts
Aaron,
IMHO, you are going to be fine with those split, rebuilt calipers. I just
was wondering why people split them. I am an old school Haynes Manual type
guy. No instruction to split was given therefore I never did them that way,
even though it was tempting because it might make it easier to remove the old
pistons. That is the hardest part of the job to me. I have seen quite a few
guys spit them including professionals.
Cheers,
Darrell
