On the few earlier GT6's I have worked with, I seem to recall there being an
actual Ballast resistor attached to the coil mounting bracket.

Presumably you are referring to the coil/ignition circuit? I don't
think there's any such thing on that old a GT6, just a regular old 12v
coil.
