Dave,
The engine bay color should match the body color; however, like you,
I've seen a lot of flat black engine bays. In fact, mine has been
painted flat black.
The flat back does hide a lot of grease, dirt and grime. This could
be a good thing or a bad thing depending on the condition of your
engine bay, and what you're trying to accomplish with the car. I
personally like my flat black engine bay, since my car is not a show
car, and it's easy to keep it presentable looking. However, if I were
going through the trouble of actually restoring the car, I think I'd
go with the body color.
