I love this list and the information and help I get for everyone while I
shuffle along putting my 4A back together. But after reading some of the
posts I get this feeling of dread thinking that I keep doing the wrong
things.
Like the "black timing chain tensioner" someone said don't ever use that
one or it will break (and I have one I my new engine!)
Or a rear anti-sway bar on a solid axle TR4A because "handling is
worse." Does that mean it will be bad without it and get worse with it
installed?
To measure the amount the cylinders stand proud, some one said to put
the gasket on and torque the head, remove it, then measure. Well if
they're too tall, wouldn't that mess up the head gasket when I torque
it? I didn't install the head and torque first because it doesn't make
sense.
Should I have used 90W oil in the steering rack instead of grease?
And the rear seal conversion said to cut the crank to 2.50, so we did
and the seal fits nice and tight. Now I hear the doc was wrong and it
will leak. Did I use enough felt seal dip it the correct permatex goop
before I pushed it in?
Maybe I bent the tub when we removed it without the doors attached. We
did lift it by the rockers and not front to back. OK? But geez, all
these things are starting to bug me.
. now it's drilled and/or slotted brake discs. Got 'em on my Audi and
don't have problems so I have them on my 4A chassis. But now it seems
they're no good either. Did I use the wrong brake pads and shoes and my
10 year project is going to sound like crickets rolling down the street?
What else have I ruined? Sure kills my motivation to finish if
everything is wrong from the start. PeterK
