I think this is a time to recommend a book. This is a book I think
EVERYONE who ever modifies anything should study before making any
modifications or even before going out and purchasing their first bolt.
It is one I wish my step father would have handed me when he drafted
my sister and I as cheap (unpaid) unskilled after school labour into the
family machine shop business.

It may be the single most important "how-to" book out there. Chapter 2
is titled "Stress, strain, load and fatigue".
Read chapters 1 & 2 before deciding to do anything to a metal part that
undergoes strong repeated stress. Understanding the concept of stress
flow can change how you look at everything. After reading it I
personally would never install drilled brake rotors.
