Hello, everyone.
I've stripped, sanded, primed and crinkle-painted the center dashpiece on my
TR3A restoration project, and installed my lovingly cleaned switches and
gauges (except the temp gauge as yet).
1) TRF sent a set of switch knobs that look great. Problem is, the hole for
the tiny dowel is upside down on the Starter Push Switch. Oh well, rather
than fight it, I drilled the hole straight through, and glued the other end,
so the inset screws would stop against something. The rest of the knobs are
magnificent replacements.
2) The TRF knob package doesn't have a knob for the heater. The knob that
came with my used replacement heater pot is brown. I'll call TRF to make sure
this is standard practice, but if so, is there a way to turn a brown knob
black...besides tossing it in the family weenie roast fire?
3) Temperature gauge. As I've already posted, I have a personal, probably
unrealistic resentment with restoring a capillary temperature gauge for $125
plus, when I can get a SunPro electric gauge for $20. It's a daily driver,
after all, not a show car. ...But, has anyone ever tried to take the chrome
ring and domed glass of a TR3 wrecked gauge, and swap it out on the $20
aftermarket gauge to get the same "look"?
Thank you, everyone.
