The concensus of opinion in my part of the world, (UK), is on an engine of
this vintage after a rebuild would need an oil and filter change after 500
miles.

The subject regarding oils has been discussed at great length on this list.
Our engines were designed for SAE 30 in summer SAE 40 winter. Later
developments in the Fifties and Sixties saw the introduction of 20W/50 for
all year round use.

This is definately the oil to use in my opinion.

Light weight oils, semi synthetic and fully synthetic oils could be harmful
to oil consumption and your pocket.

Some list members have a different opinion.

However, logic tells me that TR engines are, and were, not built to the
tight tolerances of modern engines so they need a heavier oil.
