It seemed to me that you could just cut 5/16" staples down to size and
use those in your electric stapler. Since I have same right here I
tried it and it works.
Staples (I had Arrow brand 5/16" x 8mm) are pretty soft so they can be
cut easily with ordinary wire cutters... just match the angle of the
point when you cut so they are sharp. A little fiddly loading
individual staples into the gun (Arrow model ETF50BN) but not a problem.
All that said... if you used tempered hardboard you may find it is
difficult to get a staple to penetrate is w/o crimping... that stuff is
HARDboard. If you used the softer stuff it should be fine.
As an alternative... I have used contact cement to cover TR3 panels...
not the same but similar. Just used it on the backside along the
fold-over & piping.
