I had this done 2 years ago on one of my smallmouth TR3's. I paid $130 to
have the flywheel drilled and the front input shaft cover shortened, because I
wanted to keep the "bomb" starter and flywheel with the shrunk on ring gear.
Then add another $40 to have the flywheel re-balanced. It works OK, but I
don't think the gains were worth the $ and effort. If you want to run a
diaphram pressure plate, I'd recommend finding a 4A flywheel which should cost
much less than having your TR4 unit drilled to accept the 4A bits.
