My feet fairly tremble in my boots at the thought of walking into a driveline
shop and asking them to cut my shaft off short.

While it's certainly custom, you could get a replacement at any driveline
shop.
It's not uncommon for big trucks to need replacement driveshafts, and the
shops
just make them to order.
