Hi Bill, If there are no other abnormal running conditions other than the noise & the whine is in time with engine speed I would start inspecting belt & pulley alignment. I would also check the exhaust for a leak that might cause a whistle. As long as it doesn't sound like metal to metal there's no urgency.
