And once again, the only way to guarantee to have a proportional share
of conventions scattered evenly around the country is to mandate that
the local chapters ALL host an event on an on-going basis instead of
making it optional.  

Seems to me that the CA clubs are taking advantage of the VTR
affiliation (insurance, etc) and not doing their share of the hosting.

Certainly some will attend, no matter where it's held.  I even plan to
drive
to Rockford and I expect I'll see other Los Angelinos there.  But I'm
fairly
certain it will be in much smaller proportions than even the VTR
"nationals"
that were only 1000 miles away.

And it still doesn't change my point, that VTR can hardly claim to be a
"national" club when 93% of their conventions (not counting regional
ones)
have been in the eastern half of ConUS.

I've even seen Don Elliot (from Quebec Canada) at a few TRfests ...
maybe we
should claim to be the national (un)organization !
