Tony! Let's be careful with the technical terms. Please, "doodad" is way too
technical for this group!! Even a technical expert, such as myself can
sometimes get confused!!

There should be springs attached to the little arm that is attached to each
carbs' throttle shaft. These are what returns the throttle plates to
closed.

The cross bar that has the lever is for the throttle. This attaches to a
bell crank on a plate mounted to the lower-inner studsof each carb.

There is a throttle rod which connects the other side of the bell crank to
the arm on the cross shaft from the accelerator.

The choke cable attaches to the front (with the coil spring) dooodad. This
then has a short bar connecting to the jet. Pulling the choke cable should
cause the jets to lower.

IMHO, once you switch to the SU's, you will not bother to return to the ZS
unless the SU's are already worn out. If they are unknown SU carbs, they
should be rebuilt and have new stuff added from the big rebuild kit. I
would also ream and replace the throttle shaft bushes.
