Bob, if you're worried about thrust washer life and you've got the engine apart,
now is the time to do a simple modification to it.  The mod consists of
machining the cap to take a second pair of washers and adding a pin to keep the
washers from turning.  The second pair of washers need to have a small hole
drilled to accept the pin.

I've not tried it myself (don't have a TR6), but the theory seems very good and
so far, all the results I've heard have also been good.  It doubles the thrust
surface area, which increases the life of the washers many times over.

HVDA is one place to get the cap modified, although any competent machine shop
should be able to handle it.  If you go to a machine shop that's not done this
on a TR6, take them the measurement across the web of the block, so they know
how much to machine from the cap (along with the cap & a set of washers of
course).
