you can always drop a good length of rope down one of the cylinders though
the spark plug hole. About two to three feet of 3/8th should do it. The
idea here is to eliminate the space between the piston and cylinder head.
This will prevent the crank from turning and provides a cushion as well.
Crank until you feel resistance, then you should be able to remove the
bolts -
