To remove it you do have to raise the engine a little (I did it w/a
piece of 2X4, lifting motor until resistance was felt) with the gearbox
slid forward. Then you can raise the tailpiece enough to clear the prop
tunnel and slide the box backwards far enough to clear the input shaft.
Rubber mounts w/stud have to be off.
Then, the tailpiece exits the car first -- hardest part is maneuvering
the box to clear the heater vents and the bottom of the dash fascia.
Rotating the box helps w/this. I presume the gearbox extraction method
is same for Spitfire.
On to a beer and some sudsy cleaner.
