I have not attempted to disassemble the trunions on the TR4. My Europa
uses trunions as used on Spitfires. I had to take the brakes off to
unscrew the trunions, but I did not have to unlock or remove any other
device. It is obvious that the trunion could not unscrew while the car was
in operation, so I don't know why any other lock device would be required.

I did not know that. It surprises me that they are the same.

Since my Lotus is a 1970, it probably uses the same trunions as a Spitfire
from 1970. The screw direction is different on each side of the car.
