Dear Marty,
I sold a Saab 9000S on eBay a couple of years ago. My conditions of
payment were that either the buyer could meet me and the car, and give
me cash in exchange for the keys/logbook/car, or that he could pay by
cheque or banker's draught, and receive nothing until the cheque had
cleared. My buyer chose to pay by cash. He got a train to my home
town, I met him in the Saab, and drove him back to my house. He then
handed over the ash, and I gave him the keys and the log-book, and he
drove the Saab back to London. Nice and easy.
I bought a Herald via eBay in a very similar fashion; meeting the owner
at her house, and handing over cash in exchange for the car, the keys,
and the documents.
You should have no problem if you specify that the car must be
collected, and payment must be made in your local currency. If you
wish to offer to ship the car anywhere in the world, you may regret it
if your buyer turns out to be in Ulan Bator, and wants to pay with a
personal cheque in his local currency...
