Forget trying to replace it in the car. Even if you disconnect the
driveshaft you can not move it far enough away to gain access to the pinion
flange nut without disconnecting the driveshaft at the other end and on a
73 you have to do that from above - you can't access the bolts with the
rear mount in the way. And it is not that hard to drop the diff. It is
somewhat heavy though, so don't drop it on your hand or foot. Or head.
Start shopping for a shop.
