Ill also jump on the bandwagon here. It took me a year, 3 semesters of
night classes, but I prepped and painted my TR2 and 79 VW bug. Had a great
time. Even the kids (my own and the other students) were interested, and
took time from their "rocket" projects to help out. Learned a little bit of
everything from weldiing to painting. Even built up my shoulder muscles
from all of the sanding (an added benefit!).
If you've got the time, I think it is the best way to go. Having the
schedule of classes also kept me on the project. After paying the fee, I
was too cheap to not go, so I spent 2-3 nights a week working on the cars -
something I don't do regularly.
