Sounds reasonable to me.

Since I've always been too cheap to replace my control head (even after they
became available again) ... I've done this many times.  It's not terribly
difficult, I'd put it roughly on par with rebuilding an H6 carb.

Since it is your first time, I would recommend starting by removing the
entire head intact from the car.  You'll need to undo the 4 wires that run
into the steering box, then the 3 grub screws in the steering wheel.  Up to
you whether to remove the stator tube or not ... overall I find it slightly
easier to leave it in place.  With the tube in place, you'll need to guide
the wires into the steering box end as you pull the control head away from
the steering wheel ... obviously this is easier with a helper but it can be
done by yourself by working back and forth.

Someone put some good instructions up on a web site, but I can't find it at
the moment.
