Hi Folks
I have a new addition to the fleet, a 2000 MKII Auto Saloon with PAS and a
possible problem!
It is an earlyish car, 1973, and as such should have had 2 Stromberg carbs.
It has been fitted with twin SU HS6's which in itself is no big problem, but
the vacuum port is on the bottom of the front carb, and seems to be
controlled by the position of the butterfly disc. I think this means it is a
vacuum retard port. Are vacuum advance ports controlled by the butterfly
disc
My question is, is this a problem for a car fitted with a vacuum advance? I
noticed a higher than normal advance when reconnecting the vacuum line, but
this does seem to help stop the motor stalling when selecting gears.
It runs real nice but it is a bit out of tune as it does not require choke
to start but is then out of power when accelerating cold, lovely when hot, I
found this possible problem when doing a tune up to try to correct the
acceleration problem before I get broadsided coming out of the end of the
road which has limited distance visibility, and always seems like a gamble!
As ever I appreciate any help you may be able to offer.

Graham.
