You could try finding a nut with the right thread and then grinding down the
top half of the nut so it doesn't hit the wheel ... but I would not
recommend it. And after "stripping out" a nut, I would want to replace the
stud as well.
Losing a wheel at speed is no fun at all. BTDT, threw away the T-shirt (and
undies).
