Lightweight Flywheel

I seen numerous advertisements for lightweight flywheels for our Triumphs, as
well as many newer cars.  What is the benefit the lightweight flywheel?  Does
it increase horsepower or torque?  I have read that you can increase the
engine speed more quickly.  What is the benefit of that?  So many questions
and so little time.  Thanks for your input.
