Maybe I'll use a Bfh and pound it flat - I can't visualize the
adjustable wrench working except on the edge and mine is "warped"
several inches up. Maybe the previous dpo liked dumping the clutch for
fast starts and torqued the plate?

It's supposed to be a flat plate. My `4 had a similar pair of warps.
It's
mild steel. You can bend it back to approximate the original shape. I
bent
them back to shape fairly easily with a large adjustable wrench.
