There was a story, retold in the pages of Road & Track many years ago
about a guy driving a Deux Chevaux across the Sahara who arrived at an
Oasis with the engine overheating and the rad steaming away.
Replenishing the water was not a problem but the oil level was
extremely low and there was none to be had. A "local" had been watching
the scene unfold and perceiving the problem brought the motorist a
bunch of ripe bananas and persuaded him to squeeze them into the
crankcase. He was then able to drive to the next town where he flushed
and refiled the crankcase and continued on his journey.
