Hi all - about 18 months ago I asked the list for advice on the TR2 long door
hanging from the barn rafters, and received a ton of great direction and
encouragement. Given the magnitude of the project, my lack of experience and
resources ( i.e. time and money), and that if it weren't a long door it would
be an iffy parts car (read: a BIG resto project), I decided to look for a
"warm-up" project to learn about TR's, develop parts and repair sources, and
most important, enjoy driving one while learning to restore one.
I've spent the last year and a half lurking the list, trying to get a workshop
ready, scouring Triumph club classifieds and watching e-bay for the right car.
I'm thrilled to report I've finally found and acquired the perfect (for me)
TR3A - fully assembled, virtually no rust, great interior, hardtop, ragtop, 2
pairs of sidescreens, all parts present and accounted for (and lots of spares),
rolling, but not running (PO had the brakes, air cleaners and misc. stuff parts
relocated to the boot.) - all at the right price. Brought it home with the aid
of a landscape trailer last week. Did I mention the Sherwin Williams paint job?
My objective is to drive it this summer, and restore it this winter... got the
Piggott and Williams books, and continuing to prepare the workshop (fridge, TV
and cot have raised eyebrows on the home front).
Blah blah blah... here at last is my point: I need to find a LBC specialist in
the Cambridge, Ontario area to help me assess what needs to be done to get it
running, certified and plated. Guidance much appreciated, and my experience
with referals so far to follow in a separate post.
