And oddly enough, adding A/C in such a fashion is famous for causing
overheating problems even when not using the A/C ...

Adding a condensor into the air stream adds resistance and thusly a
reduction in to the airflow. So less cooling even though the condensor is
not adding heat to the air entering the radiator.
