My 74 TR6 stumble problem is solved. I have been chasing this for a long
time. The list of things I have rebuilt and fixed is very long but I
never was able to nail the basic problem.

Basically, my stumble problem was when the car was fully warmed up; it
would stumble and pop in a situation where I would be taking off from a
standing start such as a stoplight.

As I was studying the problem, I put my timing light on each plug wire
and found that it was flashing intermittently on two of them. Well
long-story-short, the problem was related to my Crane XR-700 Ignition
system. Under the distributor cap is the optical sensor block and it is
held in place by a metal bracket. This bracket is kind of tall because
it is designed to allow the optical block to be mounted in various ways
depending on what kind of car you have.

Anyway, the spark was jumping from the rotor to the top of this bracket
as it passed overhead. I could tell because of a small amount of pitting
that was visible. Anyway, I folded over the top of the bracket to give
it some clearance and now the stumble is finally gone!!!

It is so funny how it's the little things that get you.

Regards,
Steve
