On mine, the unthreaded side of the clevis is considerably smaller, not much
bigger than the shaft of the pin.  Thus, the pin rests against the side of
the holes on both sides of the clevis.

There is supposed to be a spring under the threaded 'head' of the pin, that
presses against the lever and so keeps the whole thing from rattling.  I
believe that is why the 'head' is present and the holes are different sizes.
