Do you remember the clown toy from years back, with a button on its
base that would make the clown flop over, and then spring back when you
released the button? It turns out that a TR4 light switch operates much
the same way--probably designed by someone who had such a toy, and
carried fond memories of it into adulthood.
I learned about the innards of the TR4 light switch recently when it
stopped working. I took it apart to see if I could repair it. (I was a
professional mechanic for eleven years--how hard could it be to repair
a switch?) After staring at it for fifteen minutes and doing several
push/pull cycles on the switch shaft, I reached three conclusions:
1. I have NO IDEA how this thing is supposed to work.
2. I therefore have no chance of repairing it.
3. I need to find a replacement.
It is not available from Moss (America). It is listed in The Roadster
Factory catalog for 2003, but they want $99.95 for it! (I will leave
the car in the garage at night before I will spend $99.95 for a light
switch.) Moss (Europe) lists it for #25.26, which is equivalent to
$46.50 according to an online currency converter. That is still
pricey, even without shipping charges, and I do not fancy the long wait
for delivery.
I have two questions for the list:
1. Has anyone adapted an aftermarket switch to this purpose?
2. Does anyone have a TR4 light switch they want to sell?
