TO ALL!
I think everyone is making this thing (thread) too complicated!!! From
what I was taught years ago:
1. Find what gas station you think that, in your area, offers the most
consistent, best price for gas..........and of course it changes from time to
time!
2. To Heck! with the numbers.........start with the least
expensive.......probably regular in most places..........see if you can get
your car to run on
it!!!......what you are looking for is a condition:......such that, when you
push it all the way to the floor, in high gear, at about 30 mph, it pings 2-5
times........if it pings more.....retard the timing until it works...........if
the timing gets way out of specs.........set the timing back to
original......and
3. Move up to the next least expensive grade and try the same
thing..........remember......try retarding the spark a bit to get it to
work.......
4. Etc.
I don't think these Octane #'s mean anything much........my TR4A works great
on medium grade (the middle of the three grades usually offered) I think it's
labeled 88 octane........Haven't heard of any octane up here in the Northwest
in the 90's in many years.........guess they are giving us too much alcohol in
our gas!!! So obviously...........the numbers don't mean much nation wide,
eh?
Cheers!
Clark
My wife's Jag '67 2+2 compression ratio......9.5 to 1..........medium grade
TR4A-IRS '67 compression ratio.........9 to 1 .......medium grade
Ford Econoline Van '64.............8.5 to 1............lowest grade.....
I haven't paid for premium in 56 years...........Oh!........maybe a few times
when I was very young and a lot more ignorant!!!.........thinking that it
would help me go faster................<g>...........P.S. It never did!
