I have the diff and trailing arms out of my 76 TR6 currently and I've sent
out the hubs and also the diff inner axles to get new bearings and seals.
While everything is out, I inspected the 4 differential mounting studs and
do not see any signs of cracks or damage. But, if feasible, I'd like to
go ahead and reinforce at least the right front mount (the one I've been
told that takes the brunt of the torque) while everything is apart. What
can be done without removing the body from the frame? I thought about
simply running a bead of weld around where the studs pass through the
frame and where it attaches at the top of the frame. Would this be of any
benefit? Maybe weld on a large washer? Can the support plates that I've
read about be added with the body on from underneath the car? If so,
where can you get these reinforcement plates?
Thanks, Greg Hutmacher
