My 1980 Spit has been making a lot of noise in the rear for some time now.
Several months ago I replaced the three U-joints and that helped some but
didn't entirely fix the problem. Then I replaced the differential with a
somewhat tighter one from a parts car. It feels better, but there are still
two noises, one a low cyclical rumbling that is much slower than wheel speed
and the other something that sounds like a bad bearing at about wheel speed. I
have the bearing puller I need to do the job (I practiced on the parts car) and
the bearings, but I'm wondering about the differential. I can save $100 now on
a remanufactured differential, but it is still a bundle. What does a bad diff
sound like?
Thanks for your help.
