Chris,
My advice would be to spend your time and money restoring the car to
"new" condition. By that I mean replacing and repairing all the
things that have been neglected in the past 33 years. Replace the
flex hoses to the brakes, inspect and replace the seals in the brake
and clutch cylinders, replace the radiator hoses and flush the
radiator and heater core. Inspect the wiring and right the wrongs
done by DPOs. Renew all the bushings in the suspension, front and
rear. Get a manual and a kit and rebuild the Strombergs. This list
may not be a sexy as new carbs or a tube-shock conversion, but it
will go a long way to making the car more reliable and lower the
overall wrench-to-ride ratio. You'll have fun driving the car and may
decide that it's just fine the way it is.
