Other than TRF, can anyone recommend a source to rebuild the steering rack
on my TR6? I am just trying to do some comparative shopping. Not so much
on price, although I'm not looking to pay more than I have to, but I'm
more concerned about the quality of the work and the list of things that
they renew/replace in rebuilding the rack. I have to admit that I was
somewhat frustrated with a phone call to TRF in trying to get an
understanding of what exactly they do to the racks when they rebuild them.
I called the tech line (not the toll free line) and talked to a well
known TRF employee who shall remain nameless asking that very question. I
was told that he didn't understand why I need to know the list of what
they renew/repair when they rebuild a steering rack. He simply told me
that it would be "rebuilt". Not the level of information I was looking
for and a tone that was not what I would call cheerful customer service.
I'm not trying to flame TRF. I've been a faithful customer of theirs
since 1981 and will continue to be one because I respect their dedication
to quality and originality. I have probably one of their lowest customer
numbers. From time to time, everybody has a bad day, but the steering
rack rebuild is a critical aspect of my suspension renewal and I want to
ensure that it is rebuilt to the highest standards.
