Had my seats reworked by a professional shop and they substituted a
built-up foam with wood base for the original springs. My what a
comfortable ride this makes. Sits a bit higher than those tired springs
too. Here's a pic --

I added a little loop of black nylon strap to the front of the bottom
cushion to make it real easy to pop out when I want to haul something
large on the passenger side floor.
Apologies to the originality police & purists -- you're right but OTOH
this suits how I use & enjoy the car.
