Nope, the pin should be firmly attached to the plate.

Might work, although I have my doubts about how long. To help, make sure
the throttle pedal runs out of travel just as the carb levers hit the stops.
The stop under the pedal should take all the excess force, as the linkage
and carb levers aren't that strong.
