WHile the gearbox is certainly weaker than the big saloon box, I know several
owners of 2.5 litre engined GT6s who've not had problems with the standard
gearbox. The diff on the other hand IS a problem, certainly the weakest link in
the chain.

The early TR7 axle is I believe essentially the same unit as used on the
non-Sprint Doomites. If that's correct then the diff assembly is very similar
to the later Spitfire type. From memory there is an additional fixing hole
which needs to be drilled in the nose-piece (can't remember the specifics) but
the internals are the same.
