I've lost track of which transmission we're talking about ... for the 'big'
gearbox used on TR2-6, 2000, 2.5, Stag, etc., the pump drive cam is a
separate part that engages the splines on the shaft (has to be, otherwise
you couldn't remove the OD from the shaft).
And it is possible to cut down a non-OD mainshaft into an OD version,
although it is a fairly complicated and exacting procedure (you start by
annealing the shaft, then it has to be straightened, drilled, machined,
polished, etc, then hardened again). ORS in the UK will do it for you, but
it's close to the cost of a new shaft.
