When I was a mechanic, I bought a pair of parrot-beak channel-lock pliers
from Mac or Snap-On. This amazing tool will grip rounded bolts, rounded
nuts, even studs. The more torque you put on it, the tighter it grips. I
have occasionally had to slip a pipe over one of the handles to turn a
really tight fastener, but the fastener either comes out or breaks--always.
The only downside is that the bolt, nut, or stud is absolutely wasted in the
process.
