Well, thanks to lots of advice from here and a whole lot of trial and error I
finally got my carbs set up well enough and got to drive my 6 for the first
time in almost a year today. Must say she behaved extremely well. I'm still
smiling. I still need to put a new top on her before trusting on a long trip -
especially here during late summer -- but it's a real joy to be able to drive
for a while instead of repair/rebuild.
I wish I could trace the carb idle problem back to one thing but here's what
I did in the last round of trials: stretched the springs back to 6 and 1/2
inch length, installed the Grose Jets that came with the car but hadn't been
installed, reset the floats, balanced the temp. compensators using Buckeye
Triumphs guide.
Thanks again to all those who helped.
