Hello Micky.  I have Dan's book before me and it is a good thing since the
72 is different than the 71 (which I have).  The power to the turn signal
flasher comes from the light green/slate wire.  This power comes from the
green wire through the hazard switch.  Since your turn signals work as
expected with the key off (I would have expected the turn signals to not
work at all with the key off, but what do I know) it means power is being
applied to the light green/slate wire when the key is off.  If it is from
the green wire then the white wire would also be hot and that feeds the
coil.  Check that.  Also, the heater fan would run and the reverse lamps
would come on if reverse were engaged.

However, I suspect that the hazard switch may be miswired and light
green/slate wire is connected to the light green/pink wire through the
switch allowing power from the hazard flasher to feed to the turnsignal
flasher and then to the signals.

Write back with what you find.
