Don't know about TR7's, but for water pump gaskets I always used a cardboard
box, not corrogated. Lay the cardboard over the housing and tap around the
edges with a ball peen hammer and it will cut the gasget to size. I've
always used gasket cement on both sides. I would think that using multiple
gaskets would provide an opportunity for leaks to develop between them.
Can't imagine why there would be clearance problems, but if you can spin the
pump by hand without hearing any scraping noises, it should be fine I would
think.
