A much easier way to get some slack in the top is to remove the webbing
plates from the rearmost bow.  This is an old trick to make it easier to
install the top in cold weather : you leave the bow folded forward until the
rest of the top is installed, then push it back into position, where it will
stay by friction.

The bottom pivot on all my TR3As has been a screw that goes into a stud
welded to the mounting plate.  The mounting plate in turn is screwed to a
captive nut plate inside the body.  I don't know what rivet you're talking
about.
