The convertion you mention was a popular mod in the 70s on 'Minilite' wheels. They were called 'quick fit Minilites' and very popular with the rally boys for quick wheel changes. The mod was simple each wheel/lug nut hole was drilled out to accept a steel insert that had the standard taper seat.
