Fast Idle Cam

The fast idle cam and link rod were missing from the SU H6 carbs on my '61 
TR3A.  Is there a valid reason for removing these, such as not needing to 
accelerate the warm up period if the car is stored during the winter?  Or 
does it make sense to replace the cam?
