Don,
The only piece I've had rechromed was the luggage rack. That cost $200, so
it's in line with the price you got. (of course, that was in San Jose, CA
with very stringent environmental controls that tend to drive up costs).
After I had it done, I noticed Victoria British was selling them new for
$189, don't know the brand or quality.  Then there's the guy I met that
waits until he has a bunch of stuff to get done and then drives it down to
Mexico. Just a data point, hope it helps.
