Many years ago, TRF used to carry "notched" V belts for the early
TRs - these weren't dead flat, but had a repeating V transvers
cross section (if that makes any sense). I liked this style of
belt a lot; they're designed to be more durable at least in
part because they cool themselves.
They're also kinda noisy. That and the fact that the one on
the car had cracks in the valley of the repeating V led me
to replace with a new one. I left the spare in the trunk where
it was and ordered a brandy-new belt - but TRF only carries the
smooth belts now (Optibelt brand). OK, I put it on, it's
quieter, it works, fine.
I toasted that belt due to water pump pulley problems. Pulled
the spare out of the trunk - it's a heavy duty Gates "micro ribbed"
(woohoo!) belt. Like the repeating V but finer. Very nice -
works great, quiet too. No idea where I got it... after much
calling around, I found a modern part number, and discovered
that Schuck's/Kragen/whatever carries Gates belts; also available
at partsamerica.com. The part number you need is TR28386.
