Rob,
I went through the decision process you are going through; mine were very
rusted, so I purchased new ones from TRF. However, curiosity made be pry an
old one apart.
In addition to the nuts that are welded on (One at the rear of the two top rail
sections, and one at each end of the lower rail sections, total of 6), there
are dimples along both rail sections. Those dimples protruding inwards on each
rail block the travel of the metal roller - it is these dimples that limit the
travel of the roller, which limits overall travel.
I guess one or two of the dimples could be drilled out, but you would have to
put something back, maybe a short but thick screw.
Hope this answers your question,
Stan
